The Class of 2030 brings to ������ý a remarkable range of experiences, perspectives, and ambitions that reflect both the strength of the College's mission and its growing national and global reach.

Through interviews with longtime residents in Des Moines and Iowa City, a Summer MAPs project examines how lived experiences shape perspectives on neighborhood change, housing affordability, and local politics.

Kristen Burson, associate professor of physics at ������ý College, has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance research into a new approach for separating noble gases, with potential applications in energy production, medicine, scientific research, and industry.

������ý College has received a $600,000 grant from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation to launch a four-year initiative that will expand the integration of technology throughout the College's arts curricula while creating new opportunities for collaboration, creative exploration, and interdisciplinary learning.

As a summer intern with the ������ý Area Arts Council (GAAC), Pruszinski's work spans nearly every aspect of the organization—from youth arts education and public programming to nonprofit administration and communications. The experience is helping her grow as an educator while offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep a community arts organization thriving.

This summer, ������ý College is investing more than $1.2 million to ensure students can pursue meaningful research, internships, and community-engaged learning experiences that prepare them for lives of purpose and impact.

As part of his Mentored Advanced Project (MAP) in the Department of English, Schlimm is examining how one of the world's most popular trading card games tells stories—not just through its artwork and characters, but through the rules and mechanics that shape how the game is played. Working with Stephen Andrews, associate professor of English and director of the Center for the Humanities, Schlimm is examining what happens when a game known for its fantasy worlds ventures into new genres—and what those changes can reveal about culture and history.

Each year, ������ý College awards up to three Harris Faculty Fellowships, which provide recipients with a full year to focus on research. Harris Faculty Fellowships also provide funding for recipients’ departments to hire term visiting faculty for the Fellowship year.

������ý College is proud to announce that 15 faculty members have received promotions this spring, reflecting the excellence and dedication of ������ý’s faculty, and their commitment to teaching.

As the center’s Central America Visiting Scholar, Pérez will conduct research using the United Fruit Company Photograph Collection housed at Harvard’s Baker Library.
