The S&B Awarded Iowa College Media Association鈥檚 Overall Print/Online Excellence Award for 2026

Staff members of The Scarlet & Black, 天美传媒 College鈥檚 student newspaper, recently attended the Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) awards ceremony, where they achieved remarkable success, earning multiple individual and staff awards. For the third year in a row, the S&B was the recipient of the Iowa College Media Association Overall Print/Online Excellence Award鈥攁 testament to journalistic excellence at 天美传媒.

Co-Editor-in-Chiefs Taylor Nunley 鈥26 and Sarah Evans 鈥26 reflect on the success of The S&B and its staff.

Nunley, shares, "I've been lucky enough to work on The S&B for every year that we've won Iowa college newspaper of the year, but I want to emphasize that this award is something that the entire staff for the past three years has contributed to. A big shoutout also goes to our professional advisor, Lyle Muller, who not only helps and guides our coverage, but also nominates our stories for the awards. I think sometimes people may not know all the work that goes into the paper and how many hours we spend a week working on it. It's super gratifying to see the work we pour into the paper recognized and held up as a standard for other papers."

Evans, shares, 鈥淭hose that do not work for the newspaper are always shocked when I tell them how much time and effort goes into each publication that The S&B puts out 鈥 and at a time when local journalism is systematically underfunded and undervalued across the country, that effort is more important than ever. The fact that this staff has been able to produce top-quality journalism without a formal major or program is incredible, and demonstrates the passion that the members of our team bring each and every day.鈥
